Vinh got popped in the face!
short
Vinh Hua is a Vietnamese American performance poet from Boston, Massachusetts, who is currently living in New York City. He’s a former trashboy, a former sous chef, a former boyfriend and a former lot of things, but he’s currently just trying to be as good of a guy as he can be. Vinh has performed at venues ranging from Washington DC’s Lincoln Theatre to Madison Sq Garden, from Harvard and Yale to the Bowery Poetry Club. He can be found at www.vinh-hua.com and at the bar. He thinks you are very cool for having taken the time to read this.
long
Vinh Hua, a former trashboy and a sleep-deprived sufferer of overachieving procrastination, is a Vietnamese performance poet from Boston, Massachusetts currently wandering the streets of New York City. He’s here to clean up your streets for minimum wage and to make being lazy look like it’s difficult. Or failing that, he’s here to rock a mic for you. He considers himself an all around nice guy, a sometimes-asshole, a sometimes-genuinely-decent-person, and always a fool… but a loveable one.
Vinh is a proud Vietnamese American, raised in Dorchester, a not-so-melting-pot of ethnic, immigrant and people-of-color communities. Dorchester taught him that love is love, loyalty is loyalty and there’s beauty in even the ugliest situations. And of course how to run really really fast on short legs.
He loves Vietnamese beef jerky and love poem love affairs with jadedly romantic pen pals. He loves his friends and family, and had other ish to say about them, but believes that he isn’t a good enough poet yet to say what he wants to say about the amazing people in his life effectively. That last sentence was a case in point.
A proud member of both the Boston Progress Arts Collective and the Sulu Series Arts Collective, he honestly believes that it is through surrounding oneself with substantively beautiful people that you really learn to appreciate what is it to be a human being.
He’s had the honor and privilege of sharing the stage with such luminaries as Regie Cabico, Beau Sia, Kelly Tsai, Bao Phi and Giles Li among others. Vinh has performed at diverse array of venues from MIT, Harvard, Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis University to the Vietnamese American Students Conference and the APIA Spoken Word and Poetry Summit. He has also performed at famed arts venues such as East Meets Words, the Asian American Writers Workshop and the Bowery Poetry Club. He’s the Massachusetts Poetryoutloud Slam Champion. But on a much more real note, forget everything in this pretentious paragraph, except for the other poets, ’cause they’re dope.
He can be reached on the Internet at vinh [at] vinh-hua [dot] com, or on facebook and myspace. He’d like to receive a message from you because he figures everyone’s a new learning experience. The fact that he could use a job or two has nothing to do with it. And hey… he figures posting his bio is an easier way to get dates than posting a personal on craigslist, so prove him right. Or make fun of him for being not-the-most-intelligent-being-on-the-face-of-the-earth. Either way.
He wishes he could know everyone for what they wanted to be known as.
